Perfect Day Topiary
This topiary painting was inspired by a fabulous day out at 'des Jardins du Manoir d'Eyrignac' on my birthday this September. Eyrignac is one of the most beautiful gardens in France with an amazing representation of topiary art. It really was a 'Perfect Day' and this is the title of the painting.
The shapes that fascinated me most were these pyramids. They were so precise and so architectural. They stood out amongst all the round shapes like soldiers standing to attention. This painting is a representation of the pyramid buxus topiary. It is imaginary and not a true representation of what I saw. I simply wanted to represent the feel of the day. It was a hazy day so the painting makes you feel like you're looking through a fine mist.
The topiary pyramids are constructed from thousands of 'knots' of cotton fabric. The tree at the front has the largest knots and then they diminish in size for the second and third shapes. This helps to add to the depth of the painting. It also makes it very tactile, something which is hard to show on a flat screen.

° Ready to Ship
The painting is worked on canvas. It is unframed but the sides of the canvas have been painted so it's not strictly necessary.
This is quite a heavy painting despite the fact it is on canvas. All the fabric knots and glue have really added some weight and this is reflected in the shipping cost. The painting will come with hook eyes and wire for you to assemble. It is safer to ship it this way than to attach the hook eyes.
